🎬 When a Film Crew Showed Up at My Door…

In 2020, something completely unexpected happened:

I had my first-ever in-person artist interview, and it was filmed right in my Bay Area home studio!

I was invited to be part of a feature on Mikihasi’s YouTube Art Channel—a platform that highlights artists across the Bay Area. I said yes, not fully realizing what I was signing up for… until a crew of five showed up at my front door with cameras, microphones, boom poles, and all the cool gear.

Let’s just say: I had never done anything like this before. 😅

🎤 My First Time on Camera = Pure Nerves 😬

I was nervous. Like, sweaty-hands, heart-racing nervous. I had never talked to a camera like this—with people watching, recording, adjusting lights, and waiting on me to speak clearly.

But once the interview started, and I began talking about my work—my love for mixed media, textiles, and telling stories through layers of identity, memory, and environmental themes—the nerves slowly faded.

I shared how my work is deeply personal, often made from materials that carry family history—like heirloom saris—and how I blend them with archival imagery and environmental data to create textured, meaningful pieces.

💫 Why this Artist Interview Meant So Much

This wasn’t just a YouTube Live interview.

It was a milestone.

It was the first time I felt like my work—and the story behind it—was being seen and shared with a wider audience.

As an immigrant artist and someone who came to art from a science background, this kind of recognition felt deeply validating. It reminded me why I create: to connect, to remember, and to start conversations that matter.
